SHORT ANSWER

Duplicate claims usually happen when the same difference appears in two checks, such as a settlement check and a contract audit, or when several people raise it separately. Give each difference a single case keyed to the order and component, record the marketplace claim reference, and count only confirmed recoveries once.

Where duplicates come from

  • The same commission difference is found by an invoice-to-payout check and by a contract audit.
  • Two team members raise the same order in separate tickets.
  • A difference is claimed again after a partial recovery.
  • Re-uploading a period creates a second copy of the same discrepancy.

Key every case

Use a case key made of marketplace, order or sub-order identifier and the fee component. Before raising a claim, check that no open or closed case already exists for that key.

Record the lifecycle

Store the claim reference, the amount claimed, the marketplace response and the amount recovered. Distinguish claimed, accepted and recovered values so reporting doesn't double count. MarketplaceMetrics' recovery cases keep owner, status, claim references and timeline together.

Report recovery honestly

A detected difference is not recovery. Report recovered value only when the marketplace has accepted and settled it, and show partial outcomes as partial.

Worked example

Illustrative example only. A ₹75 commission difference on one order appears in both the settlement check and the contract audit. Keyed by order and component, both findings point to the same case, so one claim of ₹75 is raised, not two.

Questions and answers

Why do marketplaces reject duplicate claims?

A second claim for the same order and component is usually rejected as already handled, and repeated duplicates can slow the review of valid claims.

Can settlement reconciliation and contract audit find the same difference?

Yes. They answer different questions but can surface the same amount. Link both findings to one case before claiming.

When should I count an amount as recovered?

Only when the marketplace has accepted the claim and the amount has been settled. Claimed or accepted amounts are not yet recovered.
