SHORT ANSWER

Meesho positions itself as zero commission for sellers, meaning no percentage commission on your selling price. You can still bear shipping charges, return and RTO costs, optional advertising spend, and statutory deductions such as GST TCS and income tax TDS. Confirm current terms in your Meesho supplier panel and seller agreement, then match every deduction in the settlement report against them.

What zero commission actually means

Meesho promotes a zero commission model for sellers. In practice, the platform does not take a percentage cut of your selling price as commission. It does not mean your payout equals your selling price. The cost of running the marketplace shows up in other lines of your settlement.

Policies and slabs change, so treat your Meesho supplier panel, your seller agreement and the latest fee communication as the source of truth. Do not rely on any blog, including this one, for current rates.

  • Commission: advertised as nil. Confirm this in your agreement.
  • Shipping: charged per order, usually deducted from your payout.
  • Returns and RTO: may attract shipping or other charges.
  • Advertising: optional, but a real cost if you use it.
  • Taxes: statutory deductions such as GST TCS and income tax TDS.

Shipping charges: the biggest line to watch

For a zero-commission seller, shipping is often the largest deduction. The charge generally depends on parcel weight and delivery location, and the applicable slabs are published in your panel. Check them there rather than relying on memory or another seller's numbers.

Common places where shipping goes wrong:

  • Weight mismatch: the weight you declared differs from the weight charged. A small difference can push an order into a higher slab.
  • Location or zone differences: the same product can cost different amounts to ship depending on where the buyer is.
  • Return and RTO shipping: a returned order can cost you shipping both ways while earning no revenue.
  • Packaging changes: new or heavier packaging can change your charged weight without you noticing.

Keep a master sheet of declared weight for every SKU. It is your reference when a charged weight looks wrong.

Ad charges: a choice, but still a cost

Meesho offers advertising tools inside the supplier panel. Ad spend is not a marketplace fee in the strict sense, because you decide whether and how much to spend. It still reduces your real margin, so it belongs in any fee audit.

  • Check how your ads are billed (for example per click or per impression) in the ads section of the panel.
  • Check how ad spend is funded. Some accounts use a prepaid balance, others see deductions against payouts. Your panel shows which applies to you.
  • Match the ad spend in your ad dashboard with the amount that actually left your account.
  • Track ad cost per delivered order, not per order placed, since returns erase the revenue but not the ad cost.

Other deductions in your settlement

Beyond shipping and ads, a settlement can contain tax deductions, adjustments, penalties and claim credits. Use the table below to decide where to verify each line.

LineWhat to checkWhere to verify
GST TCSWhether it is applied on the correct valueSettlement report, GST portal, tax adviser
Income tax TDSWhether it appears in your tax credit recordsSettlement report, Form 26AS, tax adviser
ShippingWeight and zone against slabsSeller panel rate card, agreement
Penalties or adjustmentsReason, order reference and policy basisSeller policy, support ticket history
Return credits or claimsWhether eligible returns or losses were creditedReturns report, claim tickets

Do not assume any tax rate from an article. Confirm the current rates and treatment with your tax adviser and official notifications.

How to audit a Meesho settlement

  1. Download the settlement and order reports for the same period from the supplier panel.
  2. Match orders to payouts. Every delivered order should appear with a payout line, and every returned order should show its adjustment.
  3. Recompute shipping using your SKU weights and the current slabs. Flag orders where the charged amount is higher than expected.
  4. Confirm commission is nil on every line. Any commission-like deduction needs an explanation.
  5. Reconcile ad spend between the ad dashboard and your account movements.
  6. Check tax deductions against your records and pass differences to your tax adviser.
  7. Raise tickets with order IDs for each disputed line and track them until closed.

When manual checks stop scaling

A spreadsheet works for a few hundred orders. Beyond that, weight disputes, delayed return credits and unmatched payouts pile up and recovery tickets get forgotten. MarketplaceMetrics by Fundle reconciles marketplace sales and settlements, checks commissions and fees against agreed terms, and tracks returns and recovery cases. Myntra Excel reports are reviewed today, and other marketplaces such as Meesho are a scope discussion. Pricing is a tailored quote.

Worked example

Illustrative example only. The figures below are made up to show the method. They are not Meesho rates, so replace them with the numbers from your own rate card and reports.

ItemIllustrative amount
Orders placed: 10 at ₹600 each (gross)₹6,000
Delivered: 8 orders (₹4,800); returned: 2 orders₹4,800 revenue
Commission₹0
Shipping on 8 delivered orders at ₹65 each₹520
Shipping and return cost on 2 returned orders at ₹90 each₹180
Ad spend allocated to these orders₹300
Net before tax deductions and product cost₹3,800

Total deductions are ₹1,000, which is about 21% of delivered value (₹1,000 ÷ ₹4,800), even though commission is zero. If your SKU weight sheet says the charged shipping should have been ₹60 on some orders, that gap is what you raise as a dispute. Tax deductions are excluded here, so add them from your settlement report.

Questions and answers

Does Meesho really charge zero commission to sellers?

Meesho promotes a zero commission model, meaning no percentage commission on your selling price. Other costs such as shipping, returns, ads and tax deductions can still apply. Confirm the current position in your seller agreement and supplier panel, since terms can change.

What is the biggest cost for a Meesho seller if commission is zero?

For most sellers it is shipping, especially on returned orders, followed by advertising if you run ads. Your exact mix depends on product weight, delivery locations and return rate. Compute these from your own settlement reports instead of relying on averages.

Are Meesho ad charges a marketplace fee?

Ad spend is optional, so it is a marketing cost rather than a mandatory fee. It still reduces your margin and should be audited. Match your ad dashboard to actual account deductions and measure ad cost per delivered order.

How do I check whether Meesho shipping deductions are correct?

Download the settlement report, then compare each order's charged weight and delivery location with your SKU weight sheet and the current slabs in your panel. Flag mismatches, raise tickets with order IDs, and track each one until it is resolved.
